MSHS employs a School-Based Youth Health Nurses (SBYHNs) in order to support students' health and wellbeing through health promotion, early intervention, and preventative care.
Our SBYHNs provide:
A confidential health service for students
Health information and education for students, staff, and the wider school community
Support, intervention, and referrals to other health and community services when required
Please note that the School-Based Youth Health Nurse do not administer medication, perform health procedures, or provide routine first aid. These services are supported by other appropriately trained administration staff members.
How the School-Based Youth Health Nurse Can Help
Individual health consultations may include:
Identifying actual or potential health concerns at an early stage
Providing information about relevant health services and support options
Offering brief interventions and referrals to specialist services where appropriate
Students may seek support from the School-Based Youth Health Nurse for a range of health and wellbeing concerns, including:
Mental health and emotional wellbeing
Relationships and social issues
Stress and coping strategies
Eating and body image concerns
Sexual and reproductive health
Alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-related issues
