Students are required to sign a VET Student Training Agreement Form (located in the student handbook) prior to commencement of their Vocational qualifications.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

All students undertaking nationally recognised training need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you are a new or continuing student completing nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment. If you do not have a USI you will not receive your qualification or statement of attainment upon completion of your course.

Coastal Cookery Trade Training Centre

The Coastal Cookery Centre located at Maroochydore State High School has quality trainers, facilities and programs for students to progress within the career pathway of commercial cookery.

The Coastal Cookery Trade Training Centre has been developed out of a partnership between Burnside State High School, Maroochydore State High School and Nambour State College to address the skill shortage within the commercial cookery industry on the Sunshine Coast.

School based apprenticeships and traineeships

School based traineeships or apprenticeships are an opportunity to "earn while you learn". You will have the opportunity to receive a Queensland Certificate of Education, have at least a Certificate II in a chosen field and have been paid for the time spent working.

How does a school based traineeship / apprenticeship work?

It involves a mix of studying at school , training and working. All of these things will become part of your school timetable. A SAT (School based Apprentice or Trainee) will impact your timetable; this means some of your work or training must take place during school hours.

Periods of paid employment must never fall below the minimum of 50 days* per 12 month period from the commencement of the school-based training contract.

*The definition of a ‘day’, for the purposes of the SAT policy, is a minimum of 7.6 hours (unless a greater figure is specified in the relevant industrial instrument). This is equal to 380 Hours.

What is the difference between a school based apprentice and a school based trainee?

A school-based apprentice is trained in a skilled trade, and upon successful completion, will become a qualified tradesperson. Students may convert to a full - time or part -time apprenticeship when they finish school to allow them to complete the qualification.

A trainee is someone who is being trained in a vocational area. These vocational areas include, but are not limited to, office administration, information technology and hospitality.

Some students will complete their traineeships while they are at school. Others may need to convert to a full - time or part - time traineeship when they finish school to allow them to complete the qualification. Upon completion of a traineeship, students will receive a minimum of a Certificate II in their chosen vocational area.
