Program
Maroochydore State High School is one of the largest high schools on the Sunshine Coast and offers a broad range of academic and vocational subjects to students from Year 7 to Year 12. The school is situated just over an hour drive north of Brisbane and is at the centre of the Sunshine Coast. The new Maroochydore CBD is only 2 kilometres away and Maroochydore Beach is an easy bike ride from school.
Maroochydore State High School is located close to Sunshine Plaza the local shopping centre and a range of attractions. Our school offers specialised programs in a wide variety of curriculum areas and provides students with a safe learning environment. We have strong connections and partnerships with the local community.
Students at Maroochydore State High are encouraged to fully develop their academic potential. We provide opportunities for academic excellence in many fields of study. A range of excellence programs are provided to encourage and mentor students.
There is a range of support services including a School-based Nurse, two Guidance Officers, a chaplain and a School-based Police Officer who can offer assistance and guidance in a number of areas.
English as Another Language or Dialect support (EAL/D)
All International students are expected to participate in a 70 minute EAL/D lesson. During this time the students will be given support with homework and assignments as well as having structured English lessons that will help to improve both their spoken and written English.
Curriculum
Maroochydore State High School offers a wide range of subjects, which cater for international students. Some of the more popular subjects chosen by our overseas students include Marine Science (power boating, snorkelling and a Heron Island camp); Recreation Studies (Surfing); Film, Television and New Media; Hospitality; Aerospace Engineering; Engineering – Industrial Technology and Design; Music; Art; Aquatic Practices (sailing, boating, fishing; sport and extra-curricular activities).
International students have an opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities. Some of these activities involve sports played within the school, whilst others may participate in competitions against other schools. Some of the sports include Basketball, Australian Football, Cricket, Rugby League, Netball, Cross Country, Queensland School Sport Representative Program, Athletics and Swimming.
Travel and activities
The school also offers a range of other activities for International students. Some of these include trips to Lady Elliot Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island, Tangalooma on Moreton Island, Whale Watching and Gold Coast/Byron Bay trips are normally organised for each semester, depending on demand.
EQI holiday adventure programs
The Holiday Adventure Programs provide Education Queensland International enrolled students the opportunity to travel across Australia. Several destinations are available throughout the year including trips to the Outback, Sydney and The Great Barrier Reef. Visit the

All students residing in school arranged homestays are required to submit a Travel and Activities Form for any overnight stays away from the homestay address and activities outside of the Sunshine Coast. This includes any non-routine travel with your homestay provider.
Homestay
Our students stay with families in our school community where they immerse themselves in the Australian way of life. The lifelong friendships formed between students and host families shows the value of these programs. We always welcome new families to join in our Homestay program.
