Our school psychologist, Josh Christie, is employed through the Department of Education Wellbeing Workforce, and works Monday-Wednesday in Student Services.
Psychology Services
The psychologist uses their professional knowledge of psychological interventions and treatments to deliver appropriate and tailored therapeutic intervention that supports students' mild to moderate mental health concerns.
The psychologist applies their understanding of the mental health continuum, to identify when students require additional mental health support outside of the school context, making referrals to external agencies and providing assistance to ensure students access this additional support. They also work with other wellbeing and school staff to develop strategies to support students in the classroom and wider school community.
Referral and Support Process
A School Case Management Team (SCMT) triage student concerns, triangulate academic, social and behaviour data, observations and/or a pattern of reported concerns to determine a referral. SCMT seeks permission from guardian to source wellbeing support within the school. Consent to refer to the psychologist is best practice and enables the SCTM to understand more about the concerns and understand current and past access to supports from the guardian. The psychologist looks into the student case and seeks informed consent before working with the young person if referral is appropriate and there is availability.
