2024 Peter Doherty Awards - Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education
We are proud to announce that Madeleine Lawson in Yr. 12 is one of only 15 students state wide to be presented with the - Outstanding Senior STEM Student Award at this years Peter Doherty Awards.
These awards honour outstanding achievements in STEM education across Queensland.
This award is named after Professor Peter Doherty, a Brisbane-born Nobel Prize-winning scientist who was educated at a State school in Brisbane.
Madeleine has been an outstanding student for her entire time at Maroochydore State High School. She has consistently topped the school for academic results and won numerous academic awards in her years here. Additionally Madeleine has pursued a huge number of extracurricular science opportunites at which she has excelled. The most notable achievements include selection for the SPARQ (Students performing Advanced Research, Queensland) program, being a University of Queensland Science ambassador, being selected for a Young Change makers STEM program in Brisbane, participating in the Australian science Olympiads, and being selected for the National Science youth Forum. Madeleine has managed these personal achievements while studying one more senior subject than most students (she is enrolled in seven, rather than six subjects in senior) and maintaining an A+ academic record.
