National Champion in Two Sports

Year 10 student Nicole Kay has shown herself to be a rising star in the world of sprinting – on the athletics track and on the sand!
In March Nicole won three medals in her age group at the national Athletics championships in Perth – gold in the 100 metres, silver in the 200 metres and bronze in the 400 metres.  She achieved a personal best in both the 100 metres    and the 400 metres.  Nicole also competed in the Stawell Gift where she qualified for the 200 metres against male rivals.
In April she won her age group beach sprint at the Qld Senior State Surf Life Saving Championships and was a member of the victorious sprint team for the Mooloolaba Surf Club.  She followed this up by stunning everyone, including herself, with a win in the open women’s beach sprint at the national Surf Life Saving championships.   Despite missing gold in her age group, 10 minutes later she emerged victorious in the open event and became the youngest winner in this event in the history of the championships.
Nicole has also been invited to train at the Australian Institute of Sport – a rare honour for one so young,  but clear recognition of her potential.
